Site Access is a Hong Kong based band formed in 1995. Our songs cross many genres, including rock, punk, alternative, emo, ballads and more. The band was influenced by various styles of music, including 70’s funk, soul, hip-hop, rock, punk, alternative, emo, ballads and jazz. “Alternative Groove Funk” is our self-proclaimed style.

The very first Site Access was formed in 1995 by Yim and Mao who met each other during a music camp organized by a local guitar instructor. The name of the band came from a road sign outside a construction site when the two walked by. The band had participated Carlsberg Music Festival twice from 1995 to 1997. After our drummer and vocal left in 1998, we put an advertisement in a local youngster magazine for recruiting a drummer. Soon, Shing was in the fold. One day, a friend from another local band “The Pullover” introduced Brandon Ho to the band. Since then, the band’s 4-members lineup had become stable and we started writing our own songs in their bandroom located in a factory building in To Kwa Wan.

Our debut album “Slow Jam” with 8 original songs recorded DIY with Cakewalk and self assembled Pentium 4 computer in our bandroom was released in 2000. After a couple of years, Mao, the original bassist decided to leave the band. He was then replaced by CM Groovy. Together we started adding more funk to the music. Our performances were always slightly different because we liked to improvise on stage. In 2003, we released a mammoth indie album “Funk Fu.” This was like our icing of the cake. Alternative Groove Funk at it’s best. After two solid indie albums, the band decided to take a break in 2004.

In 2010, Brandon, Shing and Yim joined hands together and started writing new materials as a trio. What brought us together was a love for music and the enjoyment of being in a band. In 2011, we performed in the very first Clockenflap event held in the West Kowloon Cultural District. During 2012 to 2014, guitarist Lun joined the band and created a few songs with the band, including It’s Alright, Soul On The Beat, Sunshine, and It’s Happenin’, before he left the band in 2014. Afterward, guitarist Wai, saxophonist Chi and trumpeter Nok started joining. This current 6-members lineup continues working on new songs for our third new album. The new brass instruments broadened the scope and thickened the context of the band’s music.
